We have a 2006 Prius and a 2005 Sienna. I was wondering if there's a common hitch we could get for both the Prius and the Sienna (to each its own, of course!) which would let us put a bike rack on either vehicle. I've read that the Prius should have a 1.25" hitch but if I understand correctly, the Sienna should have a 2" hitch. If we never plan to haul anything other than bikes on the Sienna, does it matter? Presumably a 2" hitch is more stable, but how much does it matter given the relatively small load? (I presume bike racks attach to either hitch size, not both.) Thanks in advance for your advice!
If you are talking about the actual hitch itself, those are not swappable between cars. You will not be able to take that Curt hitch for the Prius and put it on a Sienna. To clarify, I think you are referring to a hitch-mounted bike rack that can be used on both a 1.25" and 2" hitch. Plenty of those out there. This one from Thule for instance has adapters that will allow you to use the rack on both 1.25" and 2" hitches: http://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=8&sku=971 I got the Curt hitch for my '07 Prius. Love going places with my road bike! My original Curt hitch installation thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-main-forum/38000-finally-got-my-curt-hitch.html (that el-cheapo $100 hitch mounted rack I have can also be used on 1.25" and 2" hitches.) Hope this helps!
