Here is a number to think about: $25,364.36. That's what you'll pay next month, on Earth Day, when the 2010 Honda Insight hybrid goes on sale -- at least that's what you'll pay if Honda Canada does a strict currency conversion of the U.S. price which was announced this week. But Honda Canada hasn't done that, not yet. And may not. We just don't know. Honda Canada is holding off on announcing a firm price for as long as possible. Why? Currency issues. The loonie has bounced all over the place in the last year, at times trading much higher than the U.S. greenback -- $1.10, if you recall -- but lately it's fallen like a stone, to the $.78-range this week. With the strong yen also coming into to play, the made-in-Japan Insight poses a problem for Canada: What to charge so that the new four-door hatchback hybrid comes in substantially below the 2010 Toyota Prius hybrid. The all-new Prius will likely start in the $27,000-$28,000 range when it goes on sale in June (the '09 model starts at $27,710). In a nutshell, the falling loonie is messing up Honda Canada's Insight launch. Realistically, the company would like to list the Insight for about $22,000, but that seems unlikely now. snead, Tideland Prius was talking about Insight price in Canada. The US price has been announced, LX starts at $19,800 (exc destination charge). Honda does not have many options other than LX, EX, EX-NAVI, etc (like other Hondas).
