I didn't know about any of this. "Honda today revealed information on its new hybrid powertrain system that will replace the outgoing Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system on its Civic sedan, Fit, Insight and the CR-Z Coupe." I always knew the upcoming Accord Hybrid was going to have a new hybrid system in it. In recent years Honda has lost some ground, deserving or not, in the Hybrid arena. It has seemed clear for a while now that they need to evolve their system and offerings. It's really about time. I honestly hope they can start offering hybrids and products that are exciting and legitimate competitors to all Hybrids and Electrics. The past decade, I've owned 2 Honda's in a row, Accord and Fit....and there's a lot about Honda and Honda's I like. But in considering a Hybrid purchase, I simply felt Toyota's HSD was far superior to Honda's IMA. So here's hoping their new system(s) become an option that expands the playing field.
That leaves a massive amount of room for interpretation. But then again, that is point. They want to stir discussion, arguments, and debates. Being left out isn't a good place to be in such a highly competitive arena.
I was thinking of getting an older Civic hybrid with IMA and even a newer one with it. The older one was a Floridian vehicle so it was rusting inside out, and the newer one was just overpriced for the miles it had, so I ended up going with the Prius. I didn't choose the four-door Insight or older Accord hybrid because the Insight's interior was a disaster and the Accord hybrid had a smaller electric motor than the Civic hybrid so its gas mileage was actually worse than that of a plain Civic.
This was announced the same time as the two motor system. Which is in the plug in Accord and the upcoming Accord hybrid. Nothing yet about what the this one motor is going into.
Sounds like the Civic, Fit, Insight, and CR-Z will get the single motor system. Accord is dual motor, Acura gets the three motor for the upcoming NSX and the new RLX.
I agree about the Civic and all, but it appears to still be the old IMA currently. Any statement on when the new system will appear.
It's replacing the IMA system, so I would guess it will appear on the next version of those cars, although it could appear in a mid-cycle refresh.
