Seems to only happen when it gets REALLY cold, somewhere in the teens (F). It was sort of warm out last night after our snowstorm, thus a wet Prius sat in the driveway. Well, temperature drops, everything freezes, and when I went to start her up today, a vicious grinding noise took place for about 3-5 seconds as the ICE started... It's about the second or third time this has happened, and only during particularly cold mornings. I use what, 5/30 fully synthethic Mobil 1, but I get a sneaky suspicion it's not the ICE... ...anyone experience the same thing? Thoughts, comments, opinions, theories?
coolant transfer pump as were starting to find out. Happened on the wife's 2k4 on the last cold snap.
