You can use the Prius' beeps to get people out of your way, or for safety when backing up. It's kind of cool So, when I back up out of my driveway, I roll the rear windows down like an inch, for the dog walkers and little kids. I figure it may help, some day. An inch of opening allows transmission of like 80% of the sound that an open windows would allow. But here's the real kicker! Lol The other day, I was pulling through a parking lot and a 17 year old was walking diagonally across the lot, in more or less the same direction as I, and was heading to walk directly in front of my moving car. I was moving slowly, so I was probably under electric power only I.E. the car was probably pretty silent. So I took a moment to stop the car, opened the front window a bit, took off my seatbelt, and turned car off and then back on again. It was kind of a cool trick. When I put it back in drive, the "seat belt isn't on" alarm started beeping, and as I approached, she turned her head and moved out of the way! It was kind sort of fun to see her expression, too. Like maybe a tiny truck was backing up behind her or something.
