I have my Prime scheduled to complete charging at 7:30 AM. Sometimes it is spot on. Other times, like this morning, it finishes charging 45 minutes early. It doesn’t matter much now, but when winter sets in, it would be nice to pre-condition closer to when i leave. Are the rest of you seeing this kind of swing in estimating time needed to charge?
Pre-conditioning takes a certain amount of energy that could otherwise go to the traction pack. That's especially noticeable if the J1772's source is only 120v. .
Same results here. Doesn't per-conditioning occur 10 minutes before the set time no matter when the charge actually finishes?
I have only had my Prime for less than 1 month but it seems to consistent complete 40 minutes earlier than my time of leave setting so I have begun changing my setting to at least 40 minutes later. My clock by the way seems to be accurate.
I recall reading somewhere that 'best practices' for longest battery life include about 30 minutes of time between the end of charging and the subsequent departure. So that might explain why the charging finishes that long before the scheduled departure.
I was wondering the exact same thing. This morning I took a screen shot of the notifications. It indicates that charging ended at 5:33 even though the schedule is set for a 6:40 departure. This is not the first time I've noticed a relatively huge gap between "finish" and "departure". Departure Charging by TonyPSchaefer posted Nov 1, 2017 at 8:07 AM
Resurrecting an old thread to ask a question about Prime charging time. How long does it normally take to fully charge traction battery after EV range reaches 0 on 120V OEM EVSE at 12A? I have Premium trim, so I don't have handy Entune app to monitor the time it took to complete the charging. For almost a year now, I just plugged in with OEM 120v charger at default 12A, either for immediate or scheduled charge depending on the day, and never paid much attention to how long it takes to complete the charge. The battery is always charged full unless I happen to terminate the charging earlier which did not happen that frequently. Now, what I recently noticed after plugging in my PRIME was the display showing 6 hours 10 min to full charge. I checked several times since then, it always shows 6 hours 10 min, though I have never measured actual time it takes to complete charge. The manual says 5 hours 10 min for full charge. The manual also says that in the following situations, charging time may become longer than normal: ●In very hot or very cold temperatures. ●The vehicle is consuming a lot of electricity, for example, when the head light switch is on etc. ●There is a power outage during charging. ●There is an interruption in the electrical supply. ●There is a drop in the voltage of external power source. ●The charge in the 12-volt battery is low, for example due to the vehicle being left unused for a long period of time. ●The maximum charging current is set to 8A through the “Vehicle Settings” settings. (→P. 123) ●When the “Traction Battery Heater” operates. ●When the “Traction Battery Cooler” is operated before charging. (→P. 127) None of them seems to apply in my case. Do you have any idea why it shows longer than normal time for charing?
Glad to know that. Thanks for a quick res. I will actually check how long it is taking to complete the charge next time.
Mine has recently started showing an estimated 6 hrs but actually taking less time. It started this when it got hot enough to ask to use and/or use the A/C during charging. I always say yes.
