Hi guys, i just bought a 01 prius and previous owner told me he took the vehicle to Toyota and they have diagnose the vehicle, they recommended him to replace the HV battery and computer, I am trying to find which computers bad. unfortunately it was few months a go and he doesn't have the work order or result of diagnostic, could you guide me how can i check the result or repair history? Thank you in advance.
Go to the Toyota Owners Online website and register the car with the VIN. Any repairs by a certified Toyota dealership should be listed on this site along with any ones that the previous owners have listed. This will be a summary list without details. You should be able to use this to go back to the dealer to ask for the detailed Service Report if still available.
You can almost bet there is nothing at all wrong with the computer. For quite some time it was standard procedure at toyota dealerships to replace the computer when replacing the battery. However, it is almost never really needed. In fact, 9 times out of 10 that a dealership wants to replace any computer in a car, it is generally not really needed. However, just for your info, the HV battery computer is located inside the battery enclosure which is located in the trunk of your car. Again, I wouldn't worry about it. Just get the battery and replace it. The car will actually run and operate without the HV battery computer even connected, it will simply throw an error code. So I'd replace the battery and if you still get some kind of error codes related to the battery ECU, then at that point I'd think about replacing it.
