Curious if anyone knows what I should be paying for insurance if: -I have had 2 accidents, but 1 is over 5 years ago and the other is over 3 years ago -I have 6 tickets, but they are all over 7 years ago -I have no other violations -I have a fair credit score -I live in Indiana I'm paying 100/month right now. What do you pay?
Full coverage for me is ~$125 with Farmers. Only accident I've been in in recent memory was in July 2016 when I had to go off-road to avoid getting murdered by a drunk driver. That caused a total of $4000 damage to my Prius. No tickets in recent memory either.
If you are under 30, that is a major factor too. Only a person in EXACTLY your same circumstances can answer that question. Is that just liability or full coverage ?? Call around and get some quotes.......or use the online tools available.
Just curious, for people paying monthly: is it cheaper if you pay yearly, or the same? Our latest annual cost was just over $1200 (can), with deductables of $500 collision and $300 comprehensive (act of God, or vandals, lol). We've only got the basic liability insurance, we're accident free for about 4 years now, no tickets pretty much forever, and I get a bit of a senior discount.
2 accidents..... 6 tickets..... "fair" (i.e. poor) credit score..... Hoosier.... I wouldn't cover you, and I'm surprised that you're not on high risk. Fort Wayne isn't Gary, but it's also not part of the state that they can film a remake of the movie "Hoosiers" without having to spend money on wardrobe, cars or making buildings look like they did in the 50s. Questions: When you say "insurance" are you talking about just liability or comp and collision? What kind of deductible for comp and collision? What are Indiana's state minimums, and would you want to go to court with them? (Hint: probably not, but that's a different problem) Thoughts: You can't change the past. I was on high risk when I lived in Indiana, pretty much for the same reason. 1. Insurance companies CAN charge more for people with lower credit scores in some states. - Make sure Indiana is one of them. 2. Get married. 3. Raise your deductible to $1000 and make sure that your insurance company isn't up-charging you for concierge services like "free" towing, contents insurance, etc.... 4. If your Mom or Dad is a vet, see if USAA will take you. 5. Consider downgrading to a beater while gas is cheap. Reason?....Priuses have glass jaws. In other words, if a large racoon runs out in front of my truck unexpectedly, it's a bad day for the racoon. If this happens in your Prius and you don't maneuver to avoid it successfully - then it's a GOOD day for some body shop. Good Luck!! FWIW, IMHO $100 a month for your record is suspiciously LOW.....and if the coverage is in any way satisfactory to you I would consider doing absolutely NOTHING. Depending on how long you've been with whatever company is covering you, and how old your tickets are....changing something in your policy, or getting quotes might cause them to pay attention to your DMV report on you and that might trigger substantially higher rates or even a cancellation!!!
^^^ Actually the car itself does have a huge factor in premiums. Throw the OP into an MB and I'd bet that his premiums would at least double. Parts are more expensive for newer/luxury cars than they are for older/non-luxury cars for a number of good reasons. Being able to buy or make payments on a car is one thing. Being able to insure it and pay for repairs is whole nother thing.
After our state started requiring mandatory insurance and banned stacked policies my annual insurance on 2 cars went from $333 a year to about $1200 for lesser coverage. My one car was $80 a year to cover (kid you not) but it was stacked with the other full coverage car.
NJ Manufacturers collects a $30 fee if one wants the 10 month payment plan. Enrolling in the automatic payment plan eliminates the fee. I paid $939.20 last year for $500,000 liability, $250,000 PIP, collision, $200 deductible. Not all insurance companies review the same time period and all violations are not treated equally. OP, I suspect most of your history is too old to count but that depends on the insurance company. There are two things you can do to lower your premium. First, improve your credit score. Second, enroll in a driver improvement program like the one offered by AAA. Completion of the course will get you a discount good for 3 years. Time the course so it is taken just before your policy renews.
The only thing that is considered in your premium is 1 accident, fair credit score and Indiana. Everything else is too old and has fallen off your report. I can tell you $100/month is a fair price for single car full coverage. I pay ~$60/month for full coverage and multi car discount in CA for my 2012. I pay ~$30/month for liability only on my 2005. PS Whoever got $25/month full coverage, kudos to you!
$100 for what?? the question doesn't make any sense. It's like asking how much do you spend at mcdonald's. Well its obviously going to depend if you're getting an ice cream cone or a meal for 2.
$100 is fairly cheap if it is the state minimum plus comp and collision. Try and stick with major carriers. I'd avoid that Shaq Oneill company I keep seeing advertised. Imagine having to make a claim? Looks flakey to me.
My 2007 liability only 100k / 300k is $165 every 6 months. The 2005 that my son drives adds another $370 every 6 months
On a separate topic. How much should i pay for fire, health, earthquake, life and disability insurance? Oh by the way i drive a Prius too
