I just ordered a new fob (at the whopping cost of $300+). Now the dealer wants to charge me $120 in labor to sync it to my car. Anyone out there know how to sync a new fob?
I would call around and find a better price from another dealer. Apparently it requires dealer equipment to reset one of the car's computers to temporarily accept/register a new fob. Probably have to redo the existing fobs also. Optionally, some advanced locksmiths and third party Prius mechancics can do it, but they have to have the proper scan equipment for the late model Prius, not just the ability to clone a smartkey. Personnally I would find a source and price to do the reprogramming before buying a used or new fob. See this link and follow it's lead at the end to a Florida guy's response. There is also a warning about getting the right fob fcc id.
With your expensive new and never used key fob, all you need is somebody with Toyota techstream software. It takes 30 seconds after getting the software talking to the Prius to register never used key fob. If you put your location in your user profile, then Prius Chat members nearby might be able to help. Don't pay the dealer price. Good luck.
