Hi Members, I have Prius Prime plus, how do I see total KWh in the battery after it is charged? I am seeing some range reduction and wated to check if the battery charges to 8.8KW at full charge
You can use a meter like a Kill-a-watt to measure it as it charges. The battery is 8.8KW, but only about 6KW is usable. The rest is reserved to protect the health of the battery and to be used in HV mode. The state or charge varies a little in HV mode, so depending on when you plug it in you might get a little more or less charge. I did a pretty good job using the battery in HV mode last night, and I saw 6.7KWh on my kill-a-watt this morning. Around 6.3KWh is more common. Also note that if you're L2 charging like using a Chargepoint station, that's a little more efficient so you should see closer to exactly 6KWh.
Are you asking how much energy in kWh is stored in the traction battery at any given point? If that is what you want to know, I don't think there is any good way to know that. Certainly the car does not display it by kWh. EV portion of SOC or State Of Charge can be displayed by % value, but it does not show actual kWh stored. If you are seeing reduction in EV range, you might want to check your Eco Diary for the miles/kWh value and AC load ratio. Whenever you use AC, your miles/kWh is likely to decrease, and at lower miles/kWh you have less EV range.
No way that I know to get the current kWh of the TOTAL battery pack. However, there are two ways to get it for the USABLE battery range. Drain the battery as much as possible, then recharge through a device that measures kWh (such as a kill-a-watt or a lvl2 charger with the capability). Fully charge the battery then using a bluetooth OBD2 reader and hybrid assistant app on a phone or tablet, drive till the battery is depleted. You can track the kWh used in the app. As m8547 mentioned, it won't be 8.8kWh, but closer to 6.3kWh, which is the usable range of the battery.
That will tell me the input power, i fbattery is bad, how do i know if it is retaining input power? what I want to see is how much power is stored at full charge and how much is remaining aftre driving x miles
