I am buying car from open market and found one that suits my needs, but it's a key start car Model Prius Aqua 2015 (Japan import). How can I verify that it has an immobilizer system? My understanding is that all push starts has the built in immobilizer system but the seller is insisting that it has immobilizer. Now I need to verify it since I never had an aqua before. Any help is appreciated.
welcome! not sure, but the immobilizer is usually a flashing red lock icon on the dash, after you shut the car off. the owners manual should tell you.
Yes, key start also has the immobilizer. For key start, the transponder chip is built into the key itself whereas for push start, it is built into the Smart Key FOB. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key FOB into the vehicle, the transponder chip will transmit an electronic code to the immobilizer and the engine can only start if the code matches.
