Hi everyone. Just purchased a 2010 prius III and had a question about the HSI bar. I didn't notice this at first, but when pressing the gas (from a complete stop) the HSI bar lags a second then turns on without a gradual increase. Is this normal? While the car is in motion the HSI bar is smooth and gradual, but starting from a stop it seems there is a lag before the bar "lights up" sometimes past the middle line. I press the gas gently but it doesn't ramp up gradually. Probably just my OCD kicking in. LOL. Thanks in advance for any replies.
welcome! snafu. try it with a pip on a hill from a light, when you're trying to keep it in ev. you want to accelerate as quickly as possible, but can't without the hsi bar. very frustrating! same with the back up camera. by the time it comes on, i'm already in drive and moving forward.
That must be normal behavior; my HSI exhibits the same annoying lag from a stop. Any other time, it responds promptly.
It's a readout. It displays what the CPU thinks is going on at any given moment. When it lags, odds are you're catching the CPU at a stage where it's monitoring other things and the subroutine that updates the HSI's data hasn't yet run. Sounds crazy when you think of how fast computer chips are today, but I've noticed that unless there's a demand for "digital horsepower," many devices operate at low power and low cycle rates compared to even an iPhone. My GPS should have a relatively fast CPU (all things considered), but it takes a good time to fully load up when first turned on. The CPU is not intended to consume a lot of power, so it doesn't run all that fast.
Well, as Cmdr. M. Scott said, "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
