    Pretty stunning picture of things...

I'm not sure why the condition of the world's oceans does not get more attention, but I guess it is kind of like that piece of property that nobody seems to own and everyone dumps all of their shiat there.

And overfishing would be something relatively easy to control. At least compared to climate change.

Tim, it's spelled "Shite". And yes, it's shocking. But out of sight out mind, right?

Aren't the oceans a space provided by god to put stuff you don't want in and pull unlimited amounts of fish and whales from?

I don't know how I've impacted the oceans in my day, 4 Western Pacific Cruises so far, but I do know that when the fish grow fingers thet'll have ALOT of copiers to play with, I mean A...LOT, 50+

50 miles off the coast no rules apply. Why do you think the Navy goes on deployments? Deplomacy? HA. It's to dump all that crap we've been collecting for the couple years since the ship went last.

A cruiser got underway from Fl to Va back in the 90's. Family and frieds were invited to tag along, only a couple hours cruise. As soon as the ship got far enough off the coast all the civilians got a good look at what and the amount of stuff we'll throw in the ocean without reguard. Some of them got video and people went nuts for awhile, I don't think the Navy appologized and basically said "HAHA we're in international waaateeers, we can do what we waaaant to".... or something to that effect.

Ever seen what a .50 cal will do to a fishing boat? It's ugly. Very ugly. Of course, that puts us right back to the polluting the oceans with garbage problem. It's rather simple. If they want to drag their nets across protected fisheries they lose their boat. Put those Coast Guard cutters to use.

But I see the issue. Finding different jobs for people is key. They need alternatives.

Speaking of garbage, NPR mentioned the 'garbage patch' again yesterday when they discussed the above map on 'Science Friday'. Here's a link from a SF article

Feds want to survey, possibly clean up vast garbage pit in Pacific

If there's a god in heaven, s/he's shaking his/her head at what we humans have done with this beautiful earth.

But isn't that kind of recycling? Taking from Mother Earth to create and then hiving back to Mother Earth what we've taken.
