February 2010 Dashboard: Toyota Woes Pull Down Hybrid Sales | Hybrid Cars The sales numbers really looked cattywompus. The Insight and Fusion had a great month but they are still 'in the pack.' The Camry hybrid really looked 'off' but then the Ford Fusion has a lot of good reports. Bob Wilson
Camry hybrid will probably be off until price cuts or a redesign. Fusion, Altima, and hs250 all are segmenting and hopefully growing the mid-size sedan hybrid market. You would think the prius and insight would also be growing that segment of the market. The fit hybrid and cr-z may cut into prius sales, but I would think they may help grow hybrid market share.
This would be good news. This report overlaps the production shutdown. March will probably be the full impact of the current safety complaints. It looks like Japan is absorbing the Prius production and maybe we're seeing the Insight gain some traction. I just checked Fuel Economy 48.5 (76 vehicles) - 2010 Prius 49.4 (13 vehicles) - 2010 Insight 47.5 (12 vehicles) - 2010 Insight (two models listed) The Insight was too small for our purposes but it is holding its own in owner hands.
