I found interesting the fact that, in 2005 through October, 145,400 total hybrid vehicles have been sold by Toyota overseas (a huge majority of which appear to be Prius). Is it known how many were sold in the US? Or what percentage of Prius sold overseas are sold in the US? Assuming the US consumes one-third of them (which seems like it might be high?), that would mean fewer than 50,000 were sold in the US during the first 10 months of 2005. That bodes well for those of us who have been concerned whether we would get one of the first 50,000 sold here in order to get the full tax credit allowed in '06. Even if Prius sales *doubled* in '06 (which seems unlikely), we would still have until May to get one of the first 50,000.
MRV, one of the most valuable posters at Yahoo, provides these numbers monthly. Here are US monthly Prius sales this year. Jan-05 ... 5,566 Feb-05 ... 7,078 Mar-05 ... 10,236 Apr-05 ... 11,345 May-05 ... 9,461 Jun-05 ... 9,622 Jul-05 ... 9,691 Aug-05 ... 9,850 Sep-05 ... 8,193 Oct-05 ... 9,939
Thank you very much, tochatihu (or is it DAS?). Interesting info. It indicates that, in 2005, the 50,000 Prius sales level in the US was reached during the month of June. It'll be interesting also to see how much larger those numbers will be in 2006. At any rate, assuming a significant increase in sales for 2006, which seems likely given the incentives out there and the price of gas, the 50k level could be reached in the spring, like in March or April. Do you know where MRV gets his info? What site on Yahoo are you referring to? Thanks again.
