The hybrid system and brake failure warning lights appeared in my 2008 Prius this morning when I arrived at work. I turned off the engine and took my user manual to study during lunch. This afternoon, when I attempted to start the engine, a whole array of lights appeared along with the word "Problem" and the car wouldn't start at all. I live in Tuscaloosa, AL, and made an appointment one of the very few independent garages in this town that work on hybrids. They warned me that if the car needs a new battery, they'll refer me to the local Toyota dealership. There is a garage I'd like to try out in Birmingham, 58 miles away, but I don't think I can realistically have the car moved there. I've replaced the "big" battery on another Gen 2 Prius, and I didn't have this experience. Can anyone provide any information or recommend an independent garage that handles hybrids in my area? I figure it can't hurt to ask. Thank you.
