(2014 Prius 4) Long time reader (since 2014), first post. I have done a lot of searching for my issue but it seems fairly unique. I was at work Wednesday and when I tried to start the car The check hybrid system message came up. Tried turning it off and on a couple of times but the last time it popped up a message saying the car was not in park and the vehicle would not be able to start. At this time if i applied the brakes the information panel would go black. release the brakes and after a couple of seconds it would come back up again. Chalked it up to a bad 12v battery and tried to get a jump. Car started and ran for about 5 seconds and then shut off and wouldn't restart. Would happen one of the coldest nights of the winter so far. Went to shut down and leave and noticed that it APPEARED to be off except besides the security light flashing the check engine light was on low and would slowly bright and darken. closed the door and the car beeped 3 times. hit the door locks and i get the solid tone you get when the car is still running and you try to lock the doors as well as the display lit up and key not found was displayed. Ended up just setting the parking brake manually locking the doors and leaving it that night. Purchased a new battery and installed it yesterday and still had the same problems. Though now the key fob doesn't appear to work with the door locks. Unplugged the battery because I didn't want to kill another battery I had to borrow $200 to get in the first place. Pretty much consigned to having it towed to the dealership. My guess is that there is a short somewhere in one of the control units. To summarize,.. I have never heard of there being an issue of not being able to turn off the electrical system before. Engine yes, Electrical no.
how many volts are you getting at the jump point? check the neg battery cable to ground, maybe a bad connection
corruption in the power management ecu? according to the mechanic the only things he did was plug the battery back in, clear the codes in the system and flash the power management ecu. supposedly there was a recall for a software update. picked the car back up yesterday and hasn’t been an issue since.
