Found an interesting article in one of the major swedish news paper. Unfortunately it's only available in Swedish but I'll do a summary translation here: Volvo Trucks plan to introduce hybrid trucks, busses and heavy work machinery in 2009."We are the leader [in hyrbid technology]" says CEO (?) Leif Johansson The technology absorbs energy from braking and the article says the biggest gain is for trucks that makes frequent stops, like garbage trucks and city buses.
A couple more links. One's a press releases and the other includes a video. * http://www.volvo.com/group/global/en-gb/ne.../hybrid_eng.htm * http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/03/17/000926.html I'll have to ask my old man if he knows anything about this. He works at Mack and reports directly to someone at Volvo in Sweden.
Volvo the leaders in hybrid trucks? In Japan there have been hybrid diesel-electric heavy trucks on the roads for years.
