This was a new one for me today. Driving my Prius down 101 (SF Bay Area) in the HOV lane behind an Audi A6. Traffic starts slowing suddenly and the Audi goes around a tire tread that's in the lane, I do the same. Then the Audi goes around some more bits of tire and then through a bunch of yellow/brownish liquid on the road. Said liquid gets sprayed up all over my car and very quickly I get this nasty smell of sewer in the car. While this is still processing in my head, a few hundred yards further down the road there's an old Winnebago parked on the shoulder with a guy looking underneath. Then it all clicks.....tire gets delaminated, tread swings up and rips a hole in the black water tank, contents spill on road, many cars end up covered in sewage. I'm not a big fan of automated carwashes, but today I made an exception and drove straight to one.
