I am so Happy. I received a Distinction tonight for Computer Accounting/payroll. It is no huge thing really, but it means a lot to me.:cheer2:
Yeah!! It also means you still have a job- which is great in this neck of the woods (lots of unemployed IT people in Southern California).
I am happy you shared this. It is wonderful when employers take the time to recognize the good rather than focussing on megative feedback all the time.
I don't have a permanent job. I manage to do Office Temp work, it is not consistent, but is a way of keeping up with skills. I am doing a Certificate 3 in Finance (computer accounting payroll is only one subject in that certificate), to work towards gaining employment. I am doing the course part time at our local TAFE (Night School). I am doing this for myself, No-one helps with costs, I am paying for the course myself.
Bev, you are awesome! Good on ya girl. So many people think they can stop learning just because they are adults and finished school. Truth for a lot of people our age is, the job they got when they left school no longer exists or is so drastically different to then as to be unrecognisable as the same job. I remember when my dad bought home a calculator and we sat staring in wonder at how amazing it was. We should have been wondering where it would lead us. So it looks like you can retire the old abacus and ledger books and fire up the PC. I remember coming to see you at Repco and you had all the customer accounts on card files, remember those days? Good luck with the rest of your studies Bev. PS, I received my Certificate IV in government (Investigation) last week, but unlike you, mine was paid for by my employer. Yours counts for much more in my book.
Thanks Pat. Brings back memories Those card files, there were thousands of them. They were all identified by numbers of course, and if you asked me where a certain stock item was, I could find it in an instant. But as you say it is all different now. We all have to keep up with progress. Your Certificate is no less worthy than mine. And if it helps with your employment, even better.
Bev, I got paid to attend classes, paid to do assignments, it was easier than working actually, or maybe I didn't try hard enough? I didn't have any grading on my assignments but I got comments on an earlier certificate course, which went part way to achieving the investigation certificate. Funny thing was I stuffed around in one of my assignments and got back glowing comments of praise. I actually expected to get it back to redo it. Funny thing was word count requirements. I'd start an assignment dreading the amount I needed to do to meet the minimum word count, then I'd struggle to stay under the cap. In one essay I almost doubled the cap but I think it was a good, interesting read so I got away with that one. I don't even think the lecturer commented about it being too long.
Hmmm, funnily enough, I've had engineering project like that too. The Project Manager turned out to be a real you-know-what, so I purposely did as little as possible I fully expected nasty words, etc. Instead, he offers a handshake and a *glowing* reference letter. I took the hint and got the hell out of there as quickly as possible, my sanity barely intact
I blame that on an almost endless list of moronic projects since. I now let about 95% of the bulls*** I have to deal with just sail in one ear and out the other. Life is too short to drive oneself into a heart attack/stroke over idiots
Yes PC is a time waster. In Australia an 8th grader, or Year 8 as we would refer them to, and is also their first year in High School. would be about 13 years old. Is this the age group you teach?
