I friend is thinking of buying a gen 3 with 300000 miles on it with a year mot (don't know what you call it there, inspection maybe) for £3000 (around $4500 is that right not sure). He said it was really quite clean and good condition etc, no cat n or s etc but £3000 at 300000 miles come on.
A lot of money for so many miles. What year is it? Has the head gasket been replaced? A new hybrid battery? Brake parts replaced???
Right but what are the expectations and alternatives? I often post advice against adopting a 3rd generation car, but that's mostly because the people asking seem to be interested in cars for long term usage. This one isn't going to last that long, but... maybe long enough for your friend. If you just want to risk squeezing a year and a half out of something like that, and you fully intend to skip to another car anyway? Game on. There are worse choices.
In the UK that's accident damaged categories. A must be crushed and other letters. N is light repairable body damage, s is that plus structural both N and S must be dvla etc approved to go back on the road.
And “cat”? you’ve got to appreciate your audience. If you throw in enough local-to-you acronyms, categories, and then make up impromptu abbreviations, responders are going to throw up their hands and walk away.
I am not sure what his intentions are, I guess get and use it to of or when something happens. I said he shouldn't a there is no service record or anything. He knows he might only get months or a year etc out it. It is a lot to pay for something with that mileage that high and no history, receipts or anything. It might be different if the seller has a ton of stuff to back it up when things were fixed and replaced but to have nothing....mmm.
In my experience $2K US is a reasonable price for a 300K mile Prius. Anything about $2K is not reasonable unless they can prove there's a new battery pack and new brake booster system, in which case It'd be worth paying significantly more.
$2000 is around £1500 I think, I know I was thinking the same but he does stupid/ odd things at times. Then again he probably thinks I do too.
Wow... I had no idea the value of the Brithsh pound had dropped so low. Looks like the Oligarchs in that country have really screwed things up too.
Yes but the seller wants £3000 which is around $4500 I think. For a 13 year old with 300000 and no history etc just a log book/v5 (think you call it a title) and 1 key.
Don't let your friends know you're on social media actively converting the king's money to US dollars rather than loonies... You could be called a traitor at this late stage before the US starts and loses a hilarious war against Canada.
