So, we went to the dealer to have the mudguards installed on our new v. They installed the ones on the front, but when it came time to install the ones on the back, they said the black plastic trim (which runs around the bottom of the rear bumper) interferes with where the rear mudguards would go. To install them, they would have to cut the plastic trim (on a new car), and they didn't have the right tools to do it. Naturally I was reluctant to let them do something they didn't have full confidence in being able to do a good job on. So ... has anyone tried to install (or have had installed) OEM mudguards on a '15 v? Or does any of the above sound familiar? Why would they make mudguards, and advertise them in their accessory catalog for the '15 v, if they don't fit? Am I missing something here?
I haven't tried to install them on a 2015 v, but we have sold a few for the 2015 v through the PriusChat Shop and I haven't heard about this issue. Have you looked at the installation PDF on the PC Shop page to see if there's a glaring difference in what the instructions say and what your Prius v can handle? Late followup and only a partial... Installed the front mud flaps ONLY today. I could not find my floor jack. The fronts were easy and fit well. The instructions are pretty easy and only one hole has to be drilled. I used a center punch to keep the drill bit from wandering. I hope to have time to install the rears and verify if any trimming is necessary. Joel SM-N920V ?
For the rear mud flaps, I trimmed the black bumper trim/spoiler - very easy to do. Just remove three screws from each side so you can pull the black trim/spoiler down slightly and saw from top to bottom (using a mini hacksaw). I measured the cut angle based on the mud flap angle less about two degrees for tight fit. Use blue tape to draw your cut line and to protect the bumper surrounding the cut. End result is very factory. I think cutting the black trim/spoiler is much easier to do than cutting the mud flaps. The shape of mud flap makes it very difficult to measure for perfect cut, I did that on my Miata many years ago, took many hours to measure and still the result was not perfect. Wilson
Maybe late in the day, but: We've had Hondas with mud flaps since the early eighties. Our 2010 Prius vehicle was the first that didn't have mud flaps standard, even on the front. I thought I'll see how it goes as-is, don't miss them at all. And don't have to take them off yearly to clear out all the gunk that inevitably collects behind.
