So after 2 months of ownership there is something I wanted to comment on. Today in particular because I just paid my 1st insurance bill since owning the car. Bad news is insurance went up about 100 dollars a year. And that is supposed to be with a discount since the same company is also responsible for my homeowners insurance. I brought at 2010 Prius with a package 3 on it with about 64,000 miles on the car. The car I got rid of was a 2004 Sante Fe that I owned out right with about 178,000 miles on it, and I was paying less then than I am now. For the last 4 years when it was time to renew my policy I shopped around and I still couldn’t find a company that was close to what I was paying before. Am I just being stubborn in thinking the increase is larger than it should be?
If your insurance includes collision consider that replacement value for a Prius with 64K miles may be worth quite a bit more than a 2004 Sante Fe with 178K miles. I replaced my 2004 Highlander with a 2012 Prius Plug-in and my insurance went up about the same $100. If all else fails you could ask your insurance agent
When I put a regular Prius on my insurance, it stayed the same, but when I swapped it for the PiP, it went up about $150.
Mine did too.. I thought I was gonna come out cheaper by swapping a higher HP car with the Prius... Wrong..
