Last Winter mileage was not so great in my 2018 HyCam. I struggled to achieve EPA so you could imagine my surprise when I got 66 MPG going to work in 42 degree temperatures. A few things must have combined to achieve such a good result. 1) The car is garage kept this year, it wasn't last year. 2) Had a bit of a tail wind which is unusual. 3) With the climate control off the ICE would stop normally rather than running to make waste heat. 4) I drove very slowly (unusual on the way to work). Coming home I got 63 MPG in similar temperatures. 1) Car was sitting outside at work. 2) Had a bit of a head wind 3) Climate control was off again except brief blasts to defog 4) Slow driving again 5) Going home is downhill (and usually with the wind) so mileage is usually better going home. I think the garage and leaving the climate control off may have my mileage up a bit from last Winter. It seems like the engine never wanted to shut off in cooler temps last year, maybe I'm not remembering correctly or maybe that was only below freezing.
You still might have summer blend gas(higher energy content) in the tank at this time. I think we are just getting winter blend at stations here, assuming it is the cause for the recent price drops.
