Ok - fun fact #42; At walmart, you'll apparently save enough shopping there, that you can then afford to buy yourself a nice P100D model X. Obviously the rest of us Walmart shoppers haven't been shopping there often or long enough. I for one will be going back early tomorrow .
Been decades since i represented in tax court - but generally (ie, this doesn't amount to legal advice & prepare for your eyes to glaze over) , Fed Tax Courts hold that compensation paid to Officers of S corps is reasonable (whether high or low) under a 5 prong test. Since S corps' dividends are taxable to both the officer & corporation (double taxation) - payroll tax lost revenue issues are negligible - unlike with C corp's - & dividend payments to officers are NOT deductible to the S corp. So Musk MIGHT get millions in dividends (or even stock options) and MIGHT only get $1 in sallary. But regular income (even larger than $1) doesn't have to be reported when it's just a few bucks - so how would the articles' author even know if he only got a buck .

Not sure about CA, however in MN, the minimum wage only applies to hourly workers. ----------update---------- I stand corrected, CA does have a minimum wage for CEOs. Apparently Musk earned about $37k in 2015, which he didn't accept, and no cash bonus. Lots of other bonuses if he makes certain goals. Gotta correct my comment above - that Walmart shoppers save enough to afford the model X. Yep - it seems they are not alone . . . it's Costco Shoppers too. If we spot one during our next Salvation Army drop off, I'm going to really be scratching my head. .
