Those of us who have been around longer know that this has happened before. The oil embargo of the early 70s almost killed the muscle car, and owners of these vehicles gave them away for very little as everyone rushed to buy small cars. The Japanese were right there to capitalize on the situation, while American car makers rushed to build the Vega and the Pinto. As gas prices decreased, or at least stabilized for a long time, and the government relaxed average mpg quotas established for car makers, customers began buying again the big gas guzzlers. So, here we go again...
