I have a 2007 with 276,XXX miles on it. I have a 90-mile commute to work that is almost exclusively interstate. My average speed is over 70 for the whole trip. I got a code for a cylinder 1 misfire and replaced all the pugs and coils about 18 months ago. After reset, it took care of the code for a while. In the last 3 months or so, I have had a cylinder 1 misfire code. I pulled the plug, and it looked rough, so I replaced it. Then I read that the plugs and coils HAVE to be Denso, or they can cause problems, so I went ahead and replaced the plugs and coils with Denso parts the next time the code resurfaced. Since then, it has come back, and I've ignored it, but today, it went away on its own. This past week, I only worked Monday. I know it will go away after a certain number of key cycles. What could be causing my misfire when on long drives versus short trips around town?
Well I don't know what your problem could be exactly but I run aftermarket coils there are coilover plug manufacturers that are as good or better than denso although the denso products do go the miles I have 300,000 mi coilover plugs here that have been put in other cars because I save them as I take cars out of service all the good parts go in a box and I keep them so when misfiring rears it so ugly head on another car I can have plenty of coils that I know are good that we're running in my other car so on and so forth rather than just buying new buying no name brand whatever the case may be You got to realize manufacturing standards seemingly have dumped into the toilet since the internet became a big thing quality products that we used to all buy for many manufacturers have turned into well seemingly pure junk things that I have bought for 40 years now I wouldn't touch the brand a lot of things has happened to I think if you look in the manual and talk to some folks you can test the coils with test equipment I try to use original parts from the car that came from the manufacturer on a car preferably not bought 20 years later that were made to three years ago and put in the part shelf because I think there are things going on that I don't really want to try and understand. I find the original parts off of original cars that were low mileage or wrecked hard in the back end or whatever the case are generally better than 15-year later made newer parts that seemingly can be made of lesser materials in some kind of way because now it seems everything fails very quickly whatever it is doesn't matter. I also wouldn't think really short versus longer trips would make a huge deal unless you're coil or coils are overheating indicating some kind of problem internally somewhere or something like that The plug looking rough anybody do a compression or leak down test just to see where you're at compression wise a coil failing intermittently could probably cause a misfire code and the plug to look pretty rough are you using real denso plugs the latest model for the series of car like the TT twin tips or whatever?
