At long last, I am happy to announce that I own a new Prius! At the end of last year, my 2009 Touring Prius was T-boned in LA and declared totaled after 8 years of ownership and 121,000 miles. I loved that car but the thought of replacing it with another Gen 2 Prius with the insurance money didn't thrill me, because I knew I'd never find one as cool as mine haha (except for on the Gen 2 Prius Modifications board). I toyed with the possibility of upgrading to a Lexus IS, which has always been one of my favorite cars, but after experiencing how easily cars can be destroyed in Los Angeles, I wasn't big on that idea either. I didn't know what to do... In comes Vic, aka IAmNotARoleModel, who offered up his 2010 Prius II with 81,000 miles in Private Sales section. I believe many of you are well familiar with this car, so it needs no introduction. Let's just say it's modded immaculately and wayyyy more nicely than my car ever was. Thus, I was interested, excited, nervous, but had to be patient. After my insurance was settled and he finished up some things on the car, he officially sold it to me for $8,000! I cannot thank Vic enough for his time, answering all my questions, and eventually selling me a fantastic Prius. This car has been maintained beautifully and he continued to do work on it all the way up to the day he handed me the keys, even fixing/replacing parts that most private sellers wouldn't. My only hope is that I can do it justice and continue to take great care of it. Vic is a standup guy who I'm thankful for getting to know after such a bad accident. At the risk of sounding like a Yelp review, I'll stop my post there and just say I couldn't be happier. This is exactly what I wanted. Cheers! My old car in it's glory days: After accident: The new Prius:
Congratulations Matt. I’m glad she is going to someone who will take good care of her. Just post a pic every once in awhile so I won’t miss her too much. Great dealing with you too and congratulations again.
Congrats! It looks awesome for $8K! You got to the car just before I was about to inquire about it. Anyone else have a Gen3 they want to sell me? I'm currently looking for a Gen3 ( or extremely good condition Gen2 ) for 'the kids' to drive.
Haha, enough. If you go to KBB and click Price Used/New and enter in all your car details, the fair price range for good condition is pretty much what they usually give you.
There seems to be quite a range for good on KBB between trade-in value and the high end of private party value, that's why I asked. Never had to get an insurance payout in over 50 years of driving.
No no, you choose the “buy from dealer” price. It should be higher than both of those. The amount was right on the blue dot or close, in my case. Insurance companies assume you don’t know how to buy from a private party.
