Hi all, my wife and I are talking with a few dealerships in the San Antonio area about buying a 2008 black touring edition package #5.

The salesman I spoke with at one place said they can access the inventories of dealerships in five states and no one had anything that matched what we wanted. He also said on the 22nd they find out what vehicles they will be getting and if any of the other dealerships are due to get a car that matches one we want then this dealership will swap one of their cars for that one. We had to put a $500 deposit to do it.

Is this a good, bad or indifferent thing? Should we be careful of anything here?

    Thanks

    Dan

Hi Dan, welcome to PriusChat! It's indifferent if you can get all your deposit back. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but some dealers lie. I know that will shock you, but whoever has the money closest to the dealer will get the car. If someone else in Dallas, say, wants a black touring edition #5, and their dealer happens to get it... Good luck!

Yeah, tell me about it! I learned the hard way once before but I never heard of dealers swapping alloted cars between them so I thought I would ask.

    Hopefully it all works out.
