Have there been any reports of failed inverter coolant pumps on gen3 Prius and could anyone post a picture(s) of said pump.
Just considering if the pump is more reliable than gen2 pump fitting gen3 version in gen2.

The replacement pumps on the GII don't fail, and neither do the new ones on the GIII. At least it's not a common failure. It was just an early pump design failure years ago now.

BTW, on Pearl, the -mechanical- water pump failed, not any of the electric ones. They were just recalled.
Pearl S, of course, has no mechanical pump.

There have been 4 reported failures on gen2 pumps 2008/9 in the last 2 days and many reports of replacement pumps failing.

Two of the failures were on 2009 vehicles, one with 31,000miles the other with 55,000miles.

2008/9 is not Gen 3. Let's keep this relevant to Gen III, or we can move the post to the Gen II forum.

I asked about the the gen3 pump in the gen3 forum in post one with the intention of finding out if it will fit the gen2. If the post is moved to gen2 forum it removes the whole point of the post.

    Respectfully John. (Britprius)

Correct - my comment was toward the responses, not the OP. I don't think it stands to reason that a Gen II part failure would carry over to Gen III unless an identical part number was used. Since inverter cooling was improved in Gen III, the pump may be revised as well.

It "might" be a bit early to see failures - my Gen III is just over 3 years old. My 2004 pump failed at around 4 years.

Thanks. I'm hoping to see a picture of the gen3 pump to see if there is any possibility of using it on the gen2.

Generally bearing failure but some may have failed electrically.
