love the tech, would be great in the vision restrained prius, need rear headrests too. don't discount your wife's theory, it's proxy better than the male: i'm not stopping to ask directions theory.
Disagree...I'm confident that most people driving around are more clueless than me. I mean, look at how they drive!
I'd love a better rear-corner view, seems interesting. How the heck to they get the point-of-view reasonably accurate? Low tech alternative: transparent pillars? Follow that ghost car is really cool, too.
What an excellent idea. That's one of those things that would make you choose one car over another. What will be particularly good will be when they fit it to trucks. I've been driving a two-tonne truck a lot over the past couple of weeks - I'm moving house tomorrow - and the blind spots are horrible. Truck blind spots are a particular problem in Britain, where there are lots of LHD mainland-European trucks on the roads whose drivers can't see cars passing them on the right. Something like this would make a huge difference.
Why do you need to see where you're going? At least the majority of drivers here take the "cross-your-fingers" approach and just drive like they are the only car on the road. If there is another car, it will stop... right?
worked for me for 45 years so far. if you don't hear from me for awhile, you'll know someone didn't get out the way.
With the rear-corner visibility on the Prius, I'll concede to at least half-employing that method. I mean, I'll have a look back there, but between the headrests, thick roof column, steeply sloped rear window with spoiler in the middle: I'm never 100% confident as I ease into an adjacent lane, so do it really gradual, lotsa signal, and listen for the honks.
I've never had a problem in the Prius. What I can't see from looking backwards, I can see in the side-view mirrors. Also because you should always know what is around you from checking mirrors all the time, even if you can't "see" anything you should know where the cars around you are anyways. Now in the DeLorean... You can't see a darn thing. Rear-view mirror shot... You can see the top roof-line takes up the top quarter of the mirror shot. Then the rear engine cover with the hook visible takes up the bottom almost quarter. And if you do manage to see something, it better not be taller or shorter than your view because the large horizontal rear louvres (the black plastic that stripes over the rear) blocks any sort of visibility. Also note that the cabin ends pretty much where the door ends. There is one shelf (big enough for golf clubs) and then a glass partition between that and the engine. So those big rear windows on the sides, are not really visible from the inside, they suffer similar blocking issues.
of course i saw it, many times. if i had a delorean, i wouldn't be concerned about the view from inside.
It is definitely a concern... You drive down the road and cars are drawn to the shiny stainless steel. And some of them stare too hard and start drifting into my lane/area... It is actually pretty funny because I know I can control traffic flows with it. We have a highway intown that is 65mph speedlimit where almost everyone does 75mph minimum and usually 85mph. If I drive 55mph, all the lanes of cars around me will slow down and keep pace for a while, then one by one shoot off faster but then the one behind will lag and stare and so on and so on. If I go 88mph p) the cars will still be around me matching speed no matter what they were doing before.
