A recently released iPhone and iPod Touch application named greenMeter ($5.99) aims to help drivers lower their car’s impact on the environment by weighing parameters like the vehicle’s tonnage and the price of gas against “driving style†– a fancy way of saying whether or not you’re a lead foot. The application taps into the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer to gauge the car’s rate of forward acceleration, which in turn informs a series of real-time vehicle readings like fuel efficiency (miles per gallon) and carbon footprint. iPhone App Gives Drivers Efficiency Feedback - Green Inc. Awesome! I'll have to look into this one. Sounds like a great App if it really does use the accelerometer. Of course, right now, I just keep an eye on my gas gauge and odometer.
That sounds cute, but the instrumentation we have in the Prius already supercedes anything that could give you. Now, give me an app that ties into the CAN ala a Scan-Guage and you've got something.
This app is probably for those who don't already own a Prius. Of course, if you use it in your Prius, you'll be able to see how well (or not well) it performs by comparison.
