I have a 2010 Prius 3, 200k km. I may not have cleaned the carbon deposits on the EGR before, because there is no trace of its screws. I want to remove it to clean it. I have a barrel wrench , but no E8 wrench. What tools are necessary to remove the EGR? Is the E8 necessary?
1/4 drive socket set 10mm for most part . I trade a few studs on cooler for bolts on the install . Personally leave lower nut on cooler off forever because removal will be 60 K for life or destruction 60 120 180 and so on
You have to remove “more than one” stud, using an E8 Torx socket. Also, when cleaning the intake manifold, it’s prudent to remove the two throttle body hold down studs, just to avoid damaging them (or the manifold) during cleaning. E6 Torx socket needed for that. A 1/4” drive ratchet wrench is needed too, and maybe an extension or two. have you read the required tool list, in top link in my signature? (On a phone turn it landscape to see signatures.) BTW, appreciate you’re location is somewhat remote; can you get mail order, Amazon, AliExpress or whatever?
If you're in the United States right now Lowe's has the quarter inch drive Cobalt and a blue box socket set for 1999 normally like $40 It has the torx bits the keystone flat screwdriver bits the three Phillips some torque security quarter inch drive that's going to cover you through 14 mm an extension a flex joint a short extension and a manual quarter inch drive screwdriver handle that's a very good deal for the 90 tooth setup. I would highly recommend it for the weekend warriors It's a decent set
Thanks for the replies, I spent some time and luckily found the tools I needed here. I need to learn the order of cleaning it first.
I was able to remove the EGR studs using a normal socket, I believe it was a 6mm. Granted, it was only riding on the ridges of the stud, so could cause stripping if they are really seized in there.
Break down and spend the $10~20 for an e8 socket set lol. A 1/4” drive torque wrench’ll come in handy too; the studs that need reinstalling have really low torque specs.
