is it necessary to press P when parking the car?

    I notice when turning the car off,
    if I just hit the POWER button, it automatically shifts to P (PARK).

    but today as I was pulling into my garage, I opened my door early, while still barely moving and a message popped up saying I needed to hit the P (PARK) button before shutting off the car or the battery will not charge???

    Right, that's 'because you were moving. I've had that happen too.

    Normally if the car is stopped all you need to do is press "Power."

    'Park' then 'Power' or just 'Power'....either way is a perfectly fine method of parking the car & shutting it down.

    The battery will not charge when the car is powered off anyway.
