Is it worth paying for someone else to reuse your junk?

So my waterproof camera inexplicably became not waterproof this weekend. Now it's trash. However, I still have a lot of the accessory materials(charger, AV cable, and USB cable) that are perfectly fine. I chucked the camera but I was hesitant to chuck the accessories. So I put them up on Ebay for a penny. Someone bought it for a penny. I priced the S&H for $3 to entice more bidders, but I overestimated the number people in this entire country who would pay more than $3.01 for these items. Of course the the actual S&H was more than that. So now I have to go to the post and mail the item at a loss when it would have been less of a hassle and cheaper for me to just toss it. This has happened to me before, but you know what I don't mind. Cause I'd prefer someone to use my usable junk. Is this normal thinking or is it just OCD?

Borderline OCD, perhaps. Next time price the shipping realistically.

When I dumped my almost new Goodyear Integrity tires I offered them for free on PC, as long as the "buyer" paid for all shipping. They were snapped up instantly by someone living in a warm climate.

We give away unneeded items locally when possible, so that shipping isn't an issue.

Or you could just take it down to the local Goodwill or Salvation Army or the like - they will re-sell the items and will use the money for social programs that they run and they will give you a receipt that will allow you a tax-deduction (if you itemize). Seems like a win-win to me.

If you only have one bidder, that means the items are not in demand.
There are lots of people lurking on ebay buying stuff that have no other bidder at minimum bid price and then turn around to sell them on ebay again for a higher price.
This sounds not right, but there is always another lurker will repeat the cycle again.

Ebay has gone in the toilet. Used to be you could find one of EVERTHING, now it is geared toward large sellers rather than those that wish to clear out their garage.

If you have to ship stuff like that, it probably isn't "worth" it environmentally, on the other other hand, if someone really needs one,,,

That said, Craigslist and Kijiji seem to work better, just to get stuff gone.

Your local electronics recycler might have a used hardware bin for people to put and grab. I personally are looking for a 9 vdc 1000ma power supply, but I am not willing to pay for one,,maybe a bit of shipping though.

I put that sort of stuff out on the curb for garbage. It doesn't stay long enough for the garbage truck to pick up. One time I put a lawnmower out and in the time it took me to make another trip it was gone.

I am always shocked when a neighbor puts a couch or TV on the curb ... how fast they go 'poof'.
