Just got a new 2020 Prius Prime Limited a month ago. Drove it at night for the first time a few days ago. I couldn't see the headlight switch markings (or the fog light ones) in the dark! Turned the overhead map light on and still couldn't make out the markings. Over time this won't be a problem because I will have gotten used to the switch operation. I'm thinking this could be a problem if someone rented a Prius for the first time. Now I'm wondering if they are supposed to be illuminated and mine are faulty. Sooo, are the switches on the turn signal stalk supposed to be illuminated at night, or not?
No. There is no illumination on either stalk (indicators/headlight and the wipers). You could either leave it in AUTO or just no that rotating the knob all the way towards you is OFF and all the way away from you is full headlights.
Non of my Toyota’s (and I’ve owned quite a few over the years) had illuminated headlamp or wiper or cruise control stalks.
I've never had a car in 45 years of driving with an illuminated headlight switch. Always thought that was kind of dumb.
European cars have illuminated headlight icons but the dial itself is not illuminated AFAIK. But again, that's because they have a dial on the left side of the steering wheel on the dashboard.
