Hi all, I got my UK Prime (called PHV here) about a month ago and so far I’ve done 2000 miles or so. I’m having a few issues which I’m planning on getting looked at by a garage if they don’t improve, but I wondered if anyone else has experienced these problems or may have some insight into the cause. 1 - The first issue I’m having is a simple issue with the driver side windscreen wiper - it’s not staying fully connected when wiping, instead juddering over the glass. I’ve treated my windscreen with rain-x and thoroughly cleaned the blade, but it hasn’t done anything. I’m guessing a wiper replacement will fix this? 2 - The second issue is whenever I’m driving then coming to a stop. My brakes let out a groaning, creaking noise right at the end of stopping. I can glide forward at less than 1mph no problem, but as soon as the car stops it lets out a loud groan. 3 - The final issue is a noise that’s coming from the one (or maybe more) of the wheels when driving along between 15-50 mph. It sounds almost like a brushing, humming or ‘wubwubwub’ sound, increasing and decreasing in frequency with the speed of the car. It sound almost like a rubbing brake on a bike or something like that, but it doesn’t sound like a grinding noise - it’s much fainter. I don’t know if this is related to the second issue. Do any of these sound familiar to anyone? Or does anyone have a possible explanation? I don’t know much about cars myself, so I’m a bit stumped! Thanks all!
the dealer should be able to help you under warranty. they should replace the wiper blade, inspect the brakes and try to locate the noise. could be a bad tire.
My 2008 Prius always made a grinding sound that came from the front brake rotors and was really noticeable in wet weather after the car sat for a couple of day. My new Prius does not do that, maybe they changed the metal in the rotors. bisco is right, I would take it back to the dealer and let them look at it under warranty.
Wubwubwub in the us is the extraneous noise below 20mph the car is required to make....but if you have brake noises, is your emergency brake binding, above 20mph noise would be drown out by more noise, but if the emergency cable were not releasing and the pads were always rubbing....so, why not exercise the emergency brake your next few stops, depress it fully, the release it when you next drive a few times.
I’ll book an appointment at a garage next week, fingers crossed they can figure it out. This is what I’m worried about the most I’m not sure the parking brake is the culprit as I’ve had that issue on cars before and this sounds quieter and more consistent, I’ll try flexing it a bit more on future drives anyway though just in case.
