Hello All, I have been reading all the threads related to this topic, but it seems like those threads either concern an owner's 90,000 mile service or the dealer(s) call the same service different things, so please excuse me if I am beating this topic to death with yet another thread. Anyways, I visited the dealer today to get a price for the 120,000 mile service, and I thought that I would just get a price for the minimum service, but they did not even mention the minimum service as an option, and instead they recommended the following that I do not recognize, so I wanted to get more feedback on it here. I am only including the items that I do not recognize as I am pretty comfortable doing DIY work on my car. That being said, for each of the items that I am asking about below, can you please let me know what you think in regards to the following questions: 1) How necessary it is? 2) How complicated is it to do? 1. Engine Crankcase Cleaning Service. Add Premium Oil Conditioner (EPR and MOA) 2. Ethanol Fuel System Treatment 3. Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaning Service 4. Frigi-Clean A/C Ventilation and Evaporator Core Cleaning Service Thank you and regards,
I would ignore all of that (none of those are in the official Toyota schedule), stick with Toyota schedule for starters. Do you have the Toyota USA publication "Warranty and Maintenance Booklet"? If not, you can download a pdf version, from a couple of places. I usually got to Toyota Tech Info (click on the "Manuals" tab), and the more retail Toyota USA site also has them I think. These are the main items: Replace engine oil and oil filter Replace engine and cabin air filters Full brake inspection (not just the visual inspection, a caliper off inspect/clean/lube) Replace spark plugs That said, I'd also consider the following: Brake fluid replacement (Toyota USA says nothing, but Toyota Canada says every 48K kms or 3 years) Transaxle fluid replacement (in particular if it's never been done, at least one fluid replacement is cheap insurance. Use only (pre-mixed) Toyota Super Long Life Coolant) And last but not least: Full cleaning of the EGR system and intake manifold (this is ideally done every 50K miles, fwiw. Neglecting this, head gaskets tend to blow., around 150K~200K) Attached is a spreadsheet translation (& pdf) of the event-by-event schedule published by Toyota USA. With the Toyota presentation it's basically impossible to see the patterns. Sadly, most dealerships will do their level best to talk you into a lot of extras, stuff that's a money maker for them, and often soft-pedal (or ignore) many of the items Toyota recommends. They are not your friend.
