2008, 2009 is nice as well. my daughter might be selling her '08 soon, 98,000 miles. kbb says around $5,500. in good condition. i'll be interested to see what you find and pricing.
Not that you’re partial or selfish toward that year or anything. If looking in the Gen2 realm, keep your eyes open for an 09 as that was the last year of the Gen2 before they made the 2010 Gen3’s. Keep us posted .
Nice edit. So the 08 might be finding a new home, eh? What’s the reason for parting ways, given it now has a fresh 12v it should be good for awhile? Maybe we’ll see it for sale here? Good luck with her potential sale.
she does a lot of 500 mile weekends, and we're both concerned about reliability. up in the catskills hiking in the middle of nowhere, poor cell service and tons of snow, she's looking at the suburb impreza hatch back. 25/35, all wheel drive and only 19k for a 2018.
98 k miles and does a lot of 500 mile weekends! You must have given the car to her with next to no miles on it. Buy the Hybrid Automotive setup for the hv battery and she’s good for a long time. You should be well versed on the technology . Or is she like @Mendel Leisk ’s daughter and believes in the closed hood maintenance philosophy ?
exactly. 1) two years ago, the 12v died at the airport. they jumped it, and i told her to get a new one. i asked her later on and she said, 'i think so'. 2) i asked her if she checked the oil. she said, 'i just had it changed a few months ago'. 3) i asked her when was the last time you checked the tire pressure, and especially the spare? just got the blank stare. my wife and i would be more comfortable with her in a newer vehicle. if she were local, i wouldn't care, and i could help more, but living in nyc and spending weekends in the mountains, and driving back here now and then gives us pause. plus, there's never been a better time to buy a new car, dealers and mpg's are sucking wind.
Since you have her the car I bet she is going to give you the royalties from the sale. But valid reasons for a newer car. I know my brother (who lives in Stamford) suffers from the same belief, so he rotates cars frequently as maintenance “isn’t his thing”. Always interesting what is gleaned and learned from the same set of parents or influences sometimes .
ya, i think we pushed education too hard, and common sense too little. 3 professionals who are just starting to wake up in their 30's.
There is the desire to give your kids “more than you had”. While my parents did the same, I know my kids have it much better than I did. I will be taking a “back to basics” approach as they age and hope it helps. But as you know, you do the best you can and hope for the best.
