I mean, a WEEK AGO last Sunday. Metallic Red - dark grey interior - Leather seats. got 52 MPG on my first tank. Filled it with 87 octane and only got 44 (mostly highway driving). Is it the quality of the gas at some service stations or should I go up in Octane? (I filled it yesterday with 89 and it immediately shot back up in mileage). anyway, it's my second Prius - I had a 2004 gold one and stupidly sold it when I moved away from a city. Now I'm back!
Almost certainly coincidence (warmer weather, more agreeable driving route, or something). Higher octane has a little less energy content so MPGs would tend lower, and it's a complete waste of money to use it in a Prius.
