When I drive my pkg 2 Prius at night the lights on the steering wheel are very faint. Much much fainter than the dash lights. Is this normal? and if not what could be done about it?
It's normal. The solution is to eat more carrots. The brightness is fixed. Most of us felt the same way when our Prius were new, but now the buttons are bright enough. You get used to them, and where they are located. Tom
The dimness of the buttons never really bothered me, but what I did notice was how dark everything was behind the steering wheel. I'm used to having illuminated guages on the dash behind the wheel rather than way back beneath the front window. I've gotten used to that as well, but it was disconcerting at first,
What I'd really like would be some way to turn up the brightness on the speedometer when the headlights are on. I tend to use my headlights on overcast days, and the speedo is pretty dim during those conditions.
Roll the dimmer wheel to its full up position (it clicks into position). When you do that, everything reverts to daylight mode even with the headlamps on. Tom
Each button has a different shape or feel, the volume, station and temperature buttons have a convex bump for up and a concave dent for down, the AC button is a raised semicircle, the station/track rocker has a raised line in the middle and the mode button has a small bump on it. Get familiar with the button locations and feel where they are, you won't need to see the buttons to operate them. Do you need to look at the gear lever to change gear in a manual car? Do you look down to see the wiper switch when it starts to rain? How about the indicator stalk to indicate a lane change or the brake pedal when you need to stop quickly? If you need to see all the controls in your car I'm kind a glad I live a long way away. The most important thing for you to see when driving your Prius is what is outside of it, keep the instruments as dim as you can at night while still able to see them to enhance vision outside the car.
no way to make the steering wheel lights any brighter either I'm sorry to say, but as others have said, you do sorta get used to them as is.
