I'm not sure if this has been discussed (it probably has). Every time I start my car I have to manually switch to power mode. Is there a way to keep it in power mode at all times? Thanks to all.
There is another thread on this topic but basically NO. You can only return to ECO or NORMAL mode at turn off. EV and PWR just require a tap of the switch. It's really not a big deal, but I understand your concern.
First off, greetings "Old Fat Man" somewhere in Arizonia and welcome to PriusChat! I too might hail from near that locale. It is true that you can't program the car to remain in Power mode. It is only a press of a button though, and it is only a change in the fly-by-wire accelerator response curve. There really isn't any more "power". Just delivered sooner on the pedal. I like it when the dash light comes on, thinking "ludicrous speed" or some such. Hang on, Emma
But lazy self entitled me wants power now and all the time. Who has a few calories to burn by lifting an arm and finger press while visually scanning around to see if anyone can see me driving a Prius?
But the EPA likely would have forced Toyota to include it in the MPG tests, something it didn't want to do when it worked so hard to achieve that 50 MPG rating for the 2010 model, with only a hair's margin (including rounding up from 49.5X). A 49 MPG EPA score on the Monroney stick would have had significantly less market impact.
