Hi there, Strange key fob problem of my wife's 2008 gen 2, well, she has accidentally dropped the key in the swimming pool , while the rubber has a bit torn, water went in the fob. So she peeled the rubber further and use the blow dryer to dry it for a bit. Remote was work intermittently on her first trip after that, then it stop working. So I tried dismantle the fob and spray some contact cleaner on the buttons and pcb, then blow dry it. Then put a new battery in, key just keeps blinking for 25 times also the car door locked when first blink. After that 25 blinks, no more function on the buttons, no light when pressed. I put the pcb under the sun light for a while on next morning, still no luck. Key start up the car no problem, so that just the circuit board problem. any idea ? *Non smart key model. TIA
Depending on the contaminants in the pool, it may be fubarred. Most PCB's have no problem with (pure) water as long as there is no powersupply (battery). I used to be in charge of producing submersible equipment and when one came back because of a leak, the first thing we did was cut off the battery, rinse the PCB thoroughly with (demineralised) water, dry it (paper towel and/or compressed air) and then let it further airdry in the sun of on the central heating. Next day we'd hook it up to power and see if all data was salvagable. But in many cases, pins of the PCB would have corroded away. If the memorychip was still in one piece, we would take it off and read it on a seperate readout-board, but that's all info you have no need for. If all else fails, remove battery, rinse thoroughly with water, clean gently with soft toothbrush and let it dry for extended period of time before replacing battery. Disclaimers: *AT OWN RISK* *this will only help if the issue is caused by dried up remains of contaminants present in the pool-water. The fact it blinks for 25 times may indicate a totally different problem.
