So I have searched the forums and have not been able to find any type of solution to my issue, I have one key fob to my 07 Prius with sks entry, the fob has a brand new battery and lights up red for all buttons, the car does not detect the key no matter where it is at in the car unless it's in the slot, the car locks work all via manually pressing the buttons inside the car, but I cannot get the car to work via the fob. I have checked the battery in the car as well it is okay, and the button at the knee is in the proper position as well. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?And just to clarify I can start the car.
Does the door open via smart key controls when you're outside the car? If yes, then you have a problem with the sks receiver in the center console. That is the one that detects the key inside the car and starts it. This is located behind the rear cup holder, in the center console/arm rest
To confirm - none of the buttons work on the fob? The smart key system (system that unlocks and locks the doors just by touching the door handle or black square) can be turned on and off by pushing the key button on the bottom center of the driver's dash. It's easy enough to accidentally hit.
The fob seems to work it lights up on all three buttons, and the fob will start the car if it is in the slot, I just can't seem to get it work by pressing the buttons to lock and unlock the car and he button on the doors and hatch do not respond to being pressed either. And the button at the drivers knee is in the correct position
I have no way of determining that. I was hoping I could get a diagram or maybe a photo of the alarm control module or the item that receives the signal from the remote to lock and unlock the car as it seems many wires on this car are disconnected for some unknown reason to me, and am hoping it just needs to be plugged back up. One question I do have is if it is the remote as I do not have a spare, is there a way to program the remote to lock and unlock the car without a functioning remote or does that have to be programmed by a dealer?
No the only way to lock the car is by using the manual key in the door and pressing the lock and unlock button inside the car on the actual doors
Back in the day , before fobs, most all cars locked and unlocked with a metal key. Like the metal key you've found inside your fob. On older gen2 Prius fobs, the button(s) can get sticky, between the flexible membrane and the tiny, electric switch that does the work. The bottom/emergency button is the most frequent issue. It gets stuck "ON" . The lock and unlock buttons can have the same issue. The result can be what you are experiencing. So, what shape is the flexible membrane in ? It's good having two fobs. There is an rfid chip in them that allows starting the car when the fob is insertd in the dash. The rfid chip is completely separate from the buttons, the fob's battery, and the circuit board between the battery compartment and the buttons/flexible membrane. . . . The tiny, rfid chip in the fob is what's allowing you to start the car. . . .
Then you have to reprogram the key to your car. The method to do this is called reseeding. They have to erase the memory of the car and add the key back into memory. It would be a good time to buy a used key fob, so they program it at the same time. They should not charge for the 2nd key Dealer or knowledgeable locksmith would know know to do this "reseeding"
I believe that this seed is for one program only. Once programmed - it cannot be re-written again. You got to replace it in the fob. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I know this post is kinda dead, but I just figured I'd let everyone know my solution! So since the car still starts fine with the fob and the doors lock inside the car using the button and all unlock using the key outside the car, what I did was take the key to the local hardware store and have an extra key made, I can now lock my car safely and it only cost me $2.88
