Hello, Please help me understand how much the kit cost to convert 3rd Gen to plug-in and possibly with solar charging. What is best deal for now on such conversion kit. Where can I purchase re-build title plugin, like one with hail damage or something or fender-bender, no airbags deployed. But the car itself works great. Thank you for guiding.
Just curious, but given the obscene amount of work needed to convert a regular Prius to a plug-in, why not just sell your car and buy a similarly equipped used plug-in? I doubt the difference in cost between your selling price and the cost of a used plug-in is much more than the conversion cost. Why struggle?
I agree. The most cost effective way to have a plugin Prius is to trade your current Prius for a plugin. Perhaps you might buy an aftermarket plugin retrofit kit because for some reason there are no plugin Prius available in your country As for the solar roof, I am pretty certain no one will ever retrofit the solar roof on to a Prius that doesn't have one. It would be so expensive to do this well that there would be no sense in it. I don't mean to be a wet blanket. Sorry. If it's something that you'd like to do as a hobby project, then go for it. You're 6 years too late to the party. Take it from someone who had the conversion done, it's not worth the cost. Granted, the kit I used was junk. However, at the time it was the only reasonably priced kit on the market. If you're dead set on getting a conversion done, the only company I know of that's still in business is pluginsupply.com Their kit cost more than the price difference of selling your Prius and buying a Prius plugin.
