This afternoon I got up to 65 mph to try the 'cat on the keyboard' test with the cruise control. Like a cat walking on a keyboard, the random operation test is to see if some combination might lead lead to acceleration without the pedal. The mechanical construction of the cruise control stalk prevents some electrical mode transitions I could not test so I do not consider these tests to be exhaustive. But this is what I found: high speed set cruise control; brake released; lower speed achieved; bump RES - the car goes to resume highway speed with a proportionate to speed difference power increase. However, either brake, or cruise control OFF, or SET solves the problem. Jam RES mode - holding or jamming stalk up, car accelerates (the Woz effect). But hit cruise control OFF, shift to "N" or "B" solves problem. I have not tried a 'Gilbert' ... the stalk mechanically returns to a tri-state, OFF. A 'Gilbert' would test electrical transitions that the stalk prevents. Bob Wilson
