The vortex video is interesting and perhaps of interest to us Prius owners. One generator on the vertical portion of the A pillar side mirror mount and four generators on the underside of the mirror base. Some generators on the "spare tire" tub on the underside rear body and perhaps some generators on the rear bumper underside or underside of rear bumper valance (as shown in the video). 1) Where could one find stick on generators to be purchase? If not purchasable, what's the easiest way to make some from scratch (tear drop shape I suppose) other than a plastic printer? 2) Mirror generations as stick on could be an easy mod and in addition perhaps reduce air noise? 3) Increase in fuel mileage would be very low I suppose, so cost analysis could be appropriate to consider. 4) Rear bumper vortex is fascinating to study. What do my fellow co-members think, or have in addition, to my thoughts?
Don't think anybody will make a fortune from manufacturing outside of China. Suspect the improvements might not be discernable unless you have a local public wind tunnel for experimentation.
Our previous Civic had variable valve lift, also interesting. Basically low-lift lobes for regular conditions, and (with hydraulics) the ability to shift over to high-lift lobes for intermittent kick.
So... VTEC? Here's a video if anyone wants to know the difference between variable valve lift and variable valve timing
