Toyota workers raised safety concerns with bosses in 2006 memo - latimes.com "Assembly line worker Wakatsuki has seen what he calls the deterioration in working conditions and product quality. In an interview, he listed a litany of concerns, including outsourcing key design work and shortening the trial-and-error period for new cars. 'We used to test every one of our cars for safety and quality,' said the rail-thin Wakatsuki, a 45-year Toyota veteran. 'Now we do maybe 60%. The old 100% is a thing of the past.'"
Fast & cheap doesn't produce good. No surprise. Toyota wanted to be "big, like GM" & got its wish. Nothing like having the buyer do the beta testing to boost the bottom line.
And then, if the issues that are identified by the owners are too expensive to develop a fix for, you can always dismiss the issue as operator error. That will buy you at least 3 to 4 years before things get bollixed up enough where you are forced to develop a fix for the issue(s).
