Larry David and His Prius Are Among 2004 Winners Prius has been aided by the myth that its owners are rescuing a soon-to-be-energy-starved planet -- an idea perpetuated by some scientists, as well as entertainers like Larry David, creator of ``Seinfeld,'' who drives a Prius on his latest TV show, ``Curb Your Enthusiasm.'' (David's wife is an environmentalist.) On Thursday, Toyota said it was in ``final discussions'' about increased production of Prius at a second factory in Japan, which would help it reach an annual U.S. sales goal of 50,000 -- up from an initial goal of 34,000. Buyers now must wait several months for delivery.
Here's an updated link to the article. Another interesting aspect: almost everyone's sales are down, with the exception (if I read this correctly) of Toyota and Nissan. (Why Nissan?)
Ahh. I see what you mean. Someone else pointed out to me that much of the reason Nissan was able to get a 20% spike in sales what that they were in the toilet for 2003. This has amplified the "hit" quality of their sports car line.
They actually still are in the financial toilet. Unless the positive sales continue for the 350Z and other models they could fold in the next 5-10. Mitsubishi is also in a lot of trouble and we could see them fold within 5 years. They have been heavily subsidized by Chrysler since the beginning and continue to be a financial disappointment.
hmmm it amazes me to what lengths the big 3 will go to to belittle Toyota's achievements. after reading the highly biased article it is easy to believe that the writer is from Southfield, MI which is smack dab in the middle of big 3 country.
