These new multi-testers are pretty impressive... Does this one have the auto-sensing feature that figures out what you're trying to test simply by touching to two ends to what you're testing? I like the idea of a smart multi-tester that doesn't make me tell it what I'm trying to test.

This is the meter scope I picked up last year. It proved to be good enough to monitor water pump pulse trains and might be able to output same.

It came with two real scope probes and has a signal generator much like a scope.

While this is convenient, as a meter it's too big and as a scope it's too small for serious work. But it could show the basics in auto diag.

I scanned the manual and it has a bunch of automatic functions but like many new things, time on the bench will be the true teacher.

I'm especially excited to try the 10 position, scope recording database. The 50 Msps means I can probably use it at the range for bullet velocity measurements. But I have more 'mundane' signals I want to map.

GOLDEN age of electronics testing equipment or GILDED age??

I have thee cast-off 2455s in my office, along with about $5000 worth of the various bolt-ons that I will probably have to feed to Oscar.
When I was knocking holes in the ocean these were generally far beyond the reach of the electronics hobbyist in terms of cost, and not exactly 'portable' or even capable as we know it today.
I've used them recently a few times during my recent foray into digital comms and IOT - but I haven't needed one of the newer and much more capable O-scope multimeters.
If the tariffs bite down on ChiComm exports and double the price, the new pocket meters will still be a great buy - and there's ALWAYS the world's MOST populous nation to take up the slack! ;)

Like nearly every other person with a Ham license lately, I've also gotten one of the $50 ChiComm Network Analyzers which demystifies the black art of antennae production to the point where ANYBODY can now do it.
These were ALSO once well beyond the ability of the electronics hobbyist to purchase.

    Lab grade??
    Probably not.
    Good enough???????

    Yup!
I've used a $45 Vector Network Analyzer to build several 'no tuner' EFHW and random wire antennas.

    SO......FINALLY.

I use optical power meters on the job all too frequently.
    One example.......

    Last Friday...
I just bought one of these:

    $13.70 Shipped.
    Arriving today. :)

Maybe not 'lab grade' but I will be able to determine fairly quickly if they're 'good nuff' for field work in the real world!
